Is NA a viable option for adderall addiction?
« on: February 21, 2014, 10:26:09 AM »
Hello, thank you in advance for any input. I’ll try to be brief:

I’m dealing with a terrible addiction to adderall. I’m at my lowest point and I recognize if I don’t get clean, things will not end well.

I’m lost as to how to go about getting clean. I’m in the states, and currently do not have insurance.

Does anyone have experience with NA for adderall addiction?  Is treating this addiction something that is part of the NA structure?

Thank you again for any input/insight you. can provide on this.  I’m scared to start but recognize my time is limited if I don’t make a change.

Regards,
gp

Mich – one word – YES.

"Narcotics Anonymous" is a bit of a misleading title for the fellowship. We deal with the disease of addiction, not any particular drug or class of drugs. We consider alcohol to be just another drug.

Quote
"The fact was that we could not use any mind-altering or mood-changing substance, including marijuana and alcohol successfully." ~ From NA’s Basic Text page 4
"In this program, the first thing we do is stop using drugs. At this point, we begin to feel the pain of living without drugs or anything to replace them. The pain forces us to seek a Power greater than ourselves that can relieve our obsession to use."
"Narcotics Anonymous" copyright by NAWS page 1

I agree, it is possible to find help for ANY addiction issue in Narcotics Anonymous.  There is hope and help for you.

If adderall was prescribed by a doctor to treat a mental health issue, talking to that doctor about your addiction is definitely important.  Many addicts deal with mental health issues too.  Your doctor can best help if he or she knows you are addicted to the med that was prescribed.

Regardless of why you began taking it, though…recovery can and does work!  I hope to see you around more, here or in our chat room.

Mich welcome to our recovery site so glad you found us. Maybe check out some local meetings in your area and talk to folks as well, you would be surprised at support you can get and how others can relate to your struggle. Maybe not the exact drug or substance but the disease of addiction overall. Please keep coming back and asking question :))
