I can relate to your issue a lot. My first years in recovery had to be mostly in the other fellowship, due to where I lived. I just want to say, that while of course I would have preferred to attend NA, I was completely able to make my program of recovery work in the other fellowship. I also identified as an alcoholic, out of respect for their traditions, but in my head, it was just semantics – and I was able to just translate certain words so that they made sense to me when I was doing my step work. My sponsor knew of my drug addiction and we worked on the issue of addiction in general, not which substances I used while caught in active addiction.
