We are calling this the "Getting to Know ME Game" because this round we will throw out questions that are all about making you think. We’ll just see where it goes, and remember…there are no wrong answers, so just express yourself and have fun. Thanks!
So, the first question:
Is it crazier to choose to be poor or to spend 40 years of your life hating 40 hours a week?

I spent 10+ years hating 65 hours a week, but now I am not terribly fond of our financial situation. The only thing I miss from the old job is the money. Since leaving the old job I no longer have constant acid reflux, nor do I hate the life I am living. I will choose being poor as the "saner" choice.

I would choose being poor over hating a job. Because for me if I hate a job it is going to affect my work performance and my attitude

I learned a hard lesson at a job that was toxic….I got physically ill from the stress. I started getting bouts of kidney stones, my hair was falling out, and I was coming home so tired that all I could do is go to bed and pray that I could get enough sleep to function the next day. My toxic boss unfairly fired me, but…once away from that environment, I never got another kidney stone and I started sleeping a lot better. So I definitely think it is worse to spend 40 years hating 40 hours a week.

Me too….totally depends on the time of day. In the morning, I feel very old indeed. Lately I feel old due to pain a lot too. Not sure what exact age to put on it, since I have known 80 year olds that got around better than me when I first wake up or am in pain.

3. If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?

I think fear holds me back from doing things I really want to do sometimes. I am used to making myself do things I need to do by walking through the fear using the tools of recovery. Maybe it is time to apply those same tools in this area.
As far as doing things I don’t like, my problem there is not being able to set and enforce boundaries. I am able to set them today, still working on enforcing them.

Sorry it has been awhile since the last question….
4. Do you push the elevator button more than once? Do you really believe it makes the elevator faster? How does this relate to everyday life in recovery for you?
